Fundraiser Concerts to Support our Neighbors + Resource Share
Responding to direct asks from impacted communities in NYC, Amirtha Kidambi & Laura Cocks launched a series of regular fundraiser events to support our neighbors who have been targeted by ICE and their families. In three events at Sisters, we have raised $2,800 for commissary funds/legal fees for detained neighbors, and funds to support impacted/targeted families with daily protective costs. Each event has included teach-ins and resource sharing that covers knowing your rights, what to do if you see/encounter ICE, information for emergency/deportation preparedness, and how to recognize ICE, among other important topics. Materials are available for audience members to take home and share with others. With each additional ICE abduction, the need for vital care increases city-wide. The summer is an opportunity to host fundraising events with a larger in-person capacity —increasing the financial impact of our artistic community to meet the city’s increased and ongoing need. Funds have been distributed through organizations including Mixteca via the Stand with South Brooklyn fund for legal and commissary support, individual family fundraisers and mutual aid funds including car service support.
