The Relationship Assessment Test
The Relationship Assessment Test (RAT) is an original text and series of proctored “test-takings,” inspired by the format and limitations of the U.S. college entrance exam, the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT). The artist will host a series of proctored, in-person exams, where the general public can take the multilingual RAT. The RAT consists of 20 original multiple-choice questions, created by the artist in collaboration with 20 individuals from her life. The content of each RAT question – in text and answer choices – describes true, life-altering, anonymized situations as experienced by the artist’s community in New York City, where she was born and raised. Each proctored exam begins with time for participants to take the test individually, then opens up into a collaborative space, where people can answer the test questions together, as well as meet the question-authors themselves. The Relationship Assessment Test is an alternative space to the SAT, where people can gather to plant seeds for new rituals of mutual understanding, as well as a collective reflection on experiences of growing into new stages of life.
