Intergenerational Theatre Lab
Docbloc’s inaugural Intergenerational Theatre Lab is comprised of 11 multidisciplinary artists representing various generations. The cohort works together to devise original performance work investigating democracy and the artist’s role in society. The Intergenerational Theatre Lab fosters connections between different age groups, encouraging dialogue and understanding across generations. Docbloc’s Intergenerational Theatre Lab provides a platform for sharing diverse experiences and narratives, allowing ensemble members to learn from each other’s life stories and perspectives.
About Docbloc: Docbloc’s mission is to experiment with documentary form by bringing together artists and journalists working across nonfiction genres for live performance collaborations and conversations. Docbloc believes in the power of live documentary storytelling to create solidarity and connection across artistic and social movements and to transform individuals, communities, and societies.
Docbloc was created in 2021 as a public component to founder Ash Marinaccio’s Ph.D. dissertation research in the Theatre and Performance program at the CUNY Graduate Center. As a documentarian, storyteller, artist, activist, and educator, Ash believes in placing scholarship into practice and creating work that engages the public and works to shift the status quo. Since then, Docbloc has collaborated on public nonfiction theatre programming and play development collaborations with universities, schools, and community centers, including The Eagle Project (NY), ASHTAR Theatre (Palestine), Rattlestick Theatre (NY), The People’s Forum (NY), HB Studios (NY), Art of Brooklyn Film Festival, Pace University, Queens College, Purchase College, Carter Burden Older Adult Luncheon Program, and Code Pink. Currently, we are a resident company at The Tank in midtown Manhattan.
