SUMMARY:Practicing Socially Engaged Public Art
DESCRIPTION:This open to the public panel event is co-hosted by Social Practice CUNY and Korea Art Forum. The “Practicing Socially Engaged Public Art Initiative” invites the participating artists\, socially engaged practitioners from the Graduate Center and across CUNY\, to share the transformative experiences they gained while participating in Korea Art Forum’s public engagement activities. The panel will explore key questions: What does art\, art-making\, and public art look like through the lens of social engagement? Panelists will also reflect on the challenges they faced and offer practical advice for emerging artists. This activity is part of KAF’s program supported in part by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts\, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council\, and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and New York State Council on the Arts. \nAccessibility\nThis event is in the Kelly Skylight Conference Room on the 9th floor of The Graduate Center\, City University of New York. To access the building\, CUNY visitors are required to show a valid CUNY ID at the front desk and non-CUNY visitors are required to show a government-issued photo ID. For more info\, please see The Graduate Center’s building entry policy. \nThe left-hand side of The Graduate Center’s main entrance contains a ramp from street level to the first floor of the building\, with doors that open via a push button on the side. The Skylight Conference Room is located on the ninth floor of the CUNY Graduate Center. It is most easily accessed through the main elevators across from the main entrance of the building. Bathrooms are located on the same floor as the Skylight Conference Room.
