As part of the Jamaica Forum for Public Art Otherwise, Queens-based artist Shervone Neckles presents the first in a series of three Wellness Activities that accompany her exhibition, Steeping Memory, at the York College Arts Gallery in Jamaica, Queens. At this first activity on Thursday, October 30, from 12pm to 2pm, Neckles is joined by fellow Southeast Queens Artist Alliance (SeQAA) member and fellow Queens-based eco-artist and educator Elizabeth Velazquez who will guide participants in an exploration of herbs like lemon balm, oregano brujo, and mint. Participants learn simple methods to grow these herbs for self-care and healing. Herb propagation demonstrations will be held at an activity station, and participants will leave the activity with a small plant to care for, along with an accompanying zine containing herb information and recipes for teas and flavorings. Participants can visit Neckles’ exhibition Steeping Memory either before or after the workshop. The exhibition is on view until December 1. More information about the exhibition and the Wellness Activities is provided in the RSVP form:
