What is the color of your blood?

Fall 2017-present

In today’s complex global environment our biological and cultural differences have become an unnecessary divisor. Yet the color of our blood does not change based on our skin, political viewpoints, or gender. What is the color of your blood? engages participants, mostly from the diverse borough of Queens, invited to share a droplet of blood, look at it under a microscope, generate a portrait and talk about what this means to them. What is the color of your blood? is built in collaboration with biologists from the Holtzman and Raper Labs at Hunter College CUNY and the School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in London, UK. The aim of the project is to create a visual and verbal conversation about and tangible interaction with what we all have in common. This opens up the potential of continuing dialogues between science, art and the public that generate participation, conversation and engaging imagery.
